HRC61 - Iceland GC - A/HRC/61/L.5: Rights of persons with disabilities
Human rights council – 61st session
General comment on draft resolution L.5
Rights of persons with disabilities: disability inclusive digital technologies and infrastructure, including transport and housing
Statement by Iceland
30 March 2026
Mr. President,
Iceland thanks Mexico and New Zealand for presenting draft resolution L.5 and for keeping this important topic on the Council’s agenda.
We welcome this year’s focus on disability-inclusive digital technologies and infrastructure, including transport and housing. Persons with disabilities have the right to live in a world that is accessible to them.
In this regard, disability-inclusive digital technologies and infrastructure are critical to independent living. These elements safeguard the dignity and autonomy of persons with disabilities. By designing environments and products to be usable by all persons, to the greatest extent possible, we can ensure that we leave no one behind.
Promoting disability inclusion is essential to building fair and inclusive societies, where everyone can participate and contribute.
In this regard, Iceland underlines the importance of addressing multiple and intersecting forms of discrimination faced by persons with disabilities. Promoting gender equality and the full and equal enjoyment of all human rights and fundamental freedoms by persons with disabilities remains vital.
Iceland joins consensus on draft resolution L.5. and calls on all members of this Council to do the same.
Thank you.
